At OptiSkin Medical, every skin exam is conducted with a dermatoscope, a handheld microscope Dr. Markowitz and the doctors at OptiSkin use to study the skin at greater magnification, identifying any suspicious spots. When Dr. Markowitz finds an area that needs closer review, she uses a reflectance confocal laser-scanning microscope (RCM) instead of a scalpel. RCM highlights selected skin cells, allowing for the visual diagnosis of skin cancers, including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma (BCC), and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). This advanced imaging detects tumors at their earliest stages, minimizing treatment invasiveness. If a tumor is identified as cancerous, Dr. Markowitz and the doctors at OptiSkin also employ an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) device to determine the tumor's size and depth. This information allows the doctor to customize the most effective treatment plan for each patient. A skin exam with Dr. Markowitz and the doctors at OptiSkin is painless, efficient, and provides real-time diagnoses, ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience for patients. RCM is covered by some insurance plans; please call our office to ensure coverage.
